Episode Recap

Outer Banks season 3 episode 3 begins with us learning about the bond between Big John and John B. More friends than fathers, the pair had built an unbreakable friendship together, but unfortunately, the last time they spoke, they had a huge fight. leaving much unresolved.

Now though, as the bell rings, John B appears in the church. Father and son have a touching reunion with Big John apologizing for his Houdini act all these years ago. The pair are forced to flee as Singh’s thugs appear outside. Unfortunately, when they arrive at the port, they find the boat has left and Carlos himself has hatched a plan to capture them. John B calls Sara and the others to wait for him at the OBX. Sara decides to take his advice and does so.

John B and his father arrive at the latter’s house, where they take his gun and tools, including a book about El Dorado. When John B learns that his father is working with Limbrey, he is not entirely pleased, but the pair manage to make it downtown.

There, John shows up to see a guy named RJ pulling a gun on him and holding up his hands to the Orinoco sign. In fact, this statue – once the other half is found and at least put somewhere – will reveal the location of the lost treasure of El Dorado. However, Singh arrives and wants to take a look around. As he questions RJ all the while, Big John and John B sneak out the window and into the alley. Unfortunately, they make too much noise and can be heard, leading to a great chase, at least until they get to open water.

Singh calls for his bodyguards, sure to jump on them considering there are people everywhere. Plus, chasing a couple over open water late at night is a recipe for disaster.

At sea, Big John reveals that he has become Singh’s prisoner. He didn’t leave empty-handed considering the statue actually belonged to Singh, and while pretending to work with the boy, he took a chance and ran away from the statue. Now it turns out that Singh is also after the treasure of El Dorado, which is directly related to the children’s golden cross that was discovered last season. It was in San Jose where they were rumored to have found the treasure, and this statue led them there. “That’s a big kid,” said Big John.

In Guadeloupe, Ward wakes up to find that Rafe isn’t there. However, he manages to board the cruise ship after stealing his ID card and hat back home. Once there, Rafe talks to Ward about what happened in Barbados, including the deal with Singh going south. Ward is glad he’s okay, but he has other plans right now. He wants Rafe to come home and sell everything. By doing this, Rafe will then step up and take on a bigger role in the future family business.

After a terrifying nightmare, John B wakes up to find Sarah there. But his father is missing.

  Episode Review

Did Big John bail again? We know that this fight will now be over the treasure of El Dorado, and the story is also neatly woven into the previous seasons, this treasure hunt manages to work in themes and ideas that we’ve seen before, while also adding a little extra. a fresh approach to the process.

Whether John B’s father vouches for good or if this is just a temporary blip remains to be seen, but the pieces are certainly in place for the pace to pick up and the story to be a little more intense.

Carlos Singh is certainly intimidating and Andy McQueen’s performance is a good one that eases the role nicely. With Rafe’s situation in Barbados likely spilling over into this, not to mention Wildcard Ward and the rest of the family, the rest of season 3 is set on a dangerous knife edge.
