Amazon Prime Video is at it again with a crazy web show called Farzi. Starring extremely talented artistes like Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon and Raashii Khanna in important roles, the show is currently ready to air. So let’s see how it goes.
Story:
Sandeep alias Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) is a small sketch artist. His grandfather runs the printing press for the revolutionary magazine Kranti, which is about to close due to huge debts. Left with no other option, Sunny and his friend Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) start designing counterfeit money. Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon), the kingpin of the world of forgery, sees Sunni’s skill and makes him a part of his business. On the other hand, a fiery task force officer Micheal (Vijay Sethupathi) is hell-bent on rooting out fake currency in India. He is deploying a separate team for the same and Megha (Raashii Khan) is a part of it. Did Michael succeed in his mission? How has Sunny’s life changed because of this illegal business? Watch the show to know the answers.
Extra Points:
When a show or movie is made with a group of artists, it’s difficult to balance all the characters. But Raj & DK have been highly successful in this aspect. Every character that appears in the show has importance. Whether it’s a henchman in Kay Kay Menon’s gang or a lady who wants to break up with her lover based on her socio-economic status, each character has her own purpose and relevance.
Vijay Sethupathi is an ocean of talent and the actor once again gives a great performance in the show. He is very intense as a task force officer and the effect could not have been better if another artist had performed. His comedic timing is sure to tickle your funny bones. Vijay Sethupathi’s scenes with the Central Minister are having a big time. Happy to watch his antics and mannerisms.
Shahid is the soul of Farzi, the whole plot revolves around him. Be it comedy, emotion, action or romance, the actor gave his all. Shahid is looking awesome in the show and he will surely get great applause for his acting. Moreover, the creators have touched several social elements with Shahid’s character. Special mention to Bhuvan Arora who played the role of Shahid’s friend.
Raashii Khanna plays a very important role and she rocks it. She got more opportunities to perform and the actress was right for the role. Kay Kay Menon is good as the bad guy. The cat-and-mouse game between the cops and the gangsters will keep us hooked for most of the time. They are well written with logic.
The scene of Shahid and his gang entering the paper factory for the purpose of robbery is laughable. There are many such delicious scenes. The action part is also beautifully designed with style.
Negative points:
The series is too long. Due to this extreme length, the effect will sometimes be reduced. Sometimes the show would slow down considerably and the editing team could shorten the length to enhance the viewing experience.
The middle parts are a bit boring and they could have been designed better. The use of language and the presence of more violence in places may disturb some.
Technical Aspects:
The background score by Ketan Sodha is excellent and so is the cinematography by Pankaj Kumar. The makers have spent a bomb on the series and it is evident in many shots. However, the editing, as previously mentioned, is average. The Telugu dubbing is awesome.
As for the directorial duo Raj and DK, they have done a good job with Farzi. Their writing is tight and the series has engaging content and a heavy dose of entertainment. The details are done perfectly and the way the performances are brought out is brilliant. The show has a little surprise for “Family Guy” fans that will surprise them. But the length is something that needs more attention.
Verdict:
Overall, Farzi is busy. Great performances, good writing, stylish action scenes and comedy are its strengths. Despite its length and sometimes slow pace, the show is a good watch this weekend.
