Movie Review

Starring Malavika Mohanan and Matthew Thomas, Christy’s trailer received mixed reactions when it was released. The film is about a teenager’s obsession with his teacher. In Christie, the director begins by showing real-life events. The story is a sort of autobiography of director Alvin Henry.

The film follows Roy (Mathew Thomas), a teenager who falls in love with his teacher Christy (Malavika Mohanan). Set in the tight-knit coastal community of Poovar, Roy’s declining academic performance prompts his family to meet Christy and ask her to help him with his studies. Meanwhile, Christie struggles in her personal life after recently divorcing her abusive husband. He has an accident and when Roy witnesses it, he skips his first class. Eventually, Roy becomes a beacon of hope in Christine’s life, providing her with warmth and companionship.

The one-sided portrayal of their relationship makes you wonder if it’s just infatuation or true love.

The film was also problematic in places, particularly with its depiction of Christine as a lonely divorcee. She uses Roy’s admiration to help her feel better when she is going through difficult times in her life. It gives everyone an idea of how women always depend on another person for their happiness. If the story had Christy’s perspective, it would have provided balance.

The performances of Malavika Mohanan and Matthew Thomas are commendable. Sweet things are nice in places. Malavika was tender as Christy and Mathew did well as a nervous teenager. Cinematographer Anend C Chandran and editor Manu Antony’s work matches the mood of the film.

The film explores the effect of this relationship on both characters, portraying Christy as a lonely divorcee who finds solace in Roy’s companionship. The film is inspired by a true story. The film’s story also emphasizes the importance of boundaries as Roy tries to push boundaries to confess his love for her. It could have been more if Christy had shown a balanced portrayal of both sides.
